Ham Radio Deluxe Software® Purchase and New Features & Support

Initial Purchase of Software (reg. $99.95 USD): The initial purchase of Ham Radio Deluxe Software® entitles you to the following:

• Perpetual Software License: You get a perpetual software license — meaning you have the right to use Ham Radio Deluxe Software® forever, even if you don’t make a renewal purchase.

• Activation Key: Your software activation key never expires. The key will activate any current or future release of the software (with some exceptions; see below*). You can have the software activated on five computers simultaneously.

• New Features and Support:

  • New Features released prior to 12 months after the purchase date.

  • Technical Support prior to 12 months after the purchase date.

What happens after 12 months if I do not purchase a renewal?

• You can still use any current or future release of Ham Radio Deluxe® (with some exceptions; see below*)

• You still get bug fixes and enhancements to existing features by installing new releases.

• You still get corrections to the radios you already have — see Radio Support below.

• New Features released after your New Features & Support period expires are disabled until you purchase a New Features & Support renewal that permanently enables them.

• Technical Support access also ends until you purchase a New Features & Support renewal.

No Subscriptions: Ham Radio Deluxe Software® has never been sold as a subscription.

We don't sell Versions or Updates: Just download and install the current version to stay up-to-date.

What’s the difference between bug fixes, enhancements, and New Features?

Bug fixes = corrections to an issue where the software is not working as designed or generated an error message.

Enhancements = Improvements to things you already have.

• Every release will have some content related to expanding on the use and functionality of existing features. Upcoming examples include eliminating Access and replacing it with SQLite, the addition of ATNO filters and alarms, improved performance, and many more. Customers can install future releases of Ham Radio Deluxe® for the benefit of obtaining these enhancements without a required payment.

New Features = Completely new capabilities that weren’t in the software before.

• Significant investment is made to build New Features.

• A recent example of this is HRD Alert.

• New Features are disabled if they are released after your New Features & Support period expires.

Radio Support

Ham Radio Deluxe® supports over 180 radios. Adding support for a new radio is not an enhancement to an existing feature — each radio requires its own development work: extracting the manufacturer’s CAT command set from their documentation, building and validating the command definitions, and testing against the physical radio. That work is done per radio, for every new radio brought to market.

Radio Support is therefore treated as its own entitlement, alongside New Features:

• Corrections and improvements to radios you already have are provided free, forever, exactly like any other bug fix. If a command is wrong for your radio, we fix it and you receive the fix — regardless of your New Features & Support status.

• Every radio supported by Ham Radio Deluxe® prior to the v6.10 release is available to all customers, regardless of New Features & Support status.

• Radios we add to Ham Radio Deluxe® after the v6.10 release are enabled for customers with active New Features & Support at the time the radio is added. Purchasing a renewal permanently enables every radio added prior to the end of your renewal period, including any from earlier periods — the same way New Features work.

Radios you are not currently entitled to are shown in the radio list rather than hidden, so you can always see that your radio is supported and what is required to enable it.

New Features & Support renewals (reg. $49.95 USD) : 

• Are optional

• Sold in 12-month increments

• Extends your entitlement for New Features & Support for 12 months from either (a) the current expiration date or (b) the renewal purchase date — whichever is later

• Permanently enables any new features released prior to the end of the new renewal period, as well as any locked features from prior periods

• Permanently enables any radios added prior to the end of the new renewal period, as well as any locked radios from prior periods

We take on the responsibility of delivering compelling new features and excellent technical support to earn your renewal.

* Note: The software activation key will enable any current or future releases of Ham Radio Deluxe on compatible hardware and operating systems. Major version releases may require a renewal of New Features & Support when the balance of new features is the majority of the release content.
